You know, I didn’t really expect Yves Saint Laurent to go along with the stud trend. Their bags are so consistently understated and sleek that I didn’t think they’d subscribe to such an edgy and obvious trend, but I was wrong, and very happily so.

The base of the bag is one that we’re all very familiar with – YSL has done a million and one things with it over the past few seasons and has produced more iterations than I’ve been able to keep track of (the stamped sequin version has been my favorite until now). It follows logically that if they were going to chase a trend, they’d do it with this bag as the root of the design, since it’s the shape that they use as a canvas most often. Instead of spreading the studs throughout the bag, they’re all concentrated on the stitched Y-shape in the middle of the bag, and they’re not the studs that we’ve been seeing from other designers for fall. Instead of grungy looking and industrial, they’re smooth, flat, shiny silver circles that fit easily into the minimalist bags that we’ve seen from them lately.

They’ve taken the trend and made it their own, and I’d love to have this bag in my closet.

Ok, so I doubt any childhood icons had to die to make the Prada Visone Tote , but that doesn’t make it any less unattractive.

The reasons that this bag is unattractive are almost too obvious to describe, and the fact that it looks like the pelt of a woolly mammoth puppet probably says it all for me. Explaining why this bag is bad is like shooting fish in a barrel. Which, of course, I’m happy to do.

There’s nothing artful or interesting about this. It’s a giant ball of brown mink with a briefcase handle stick out of the top. It’s not that the design is bad, it’s that there’s no design to speak of. I know Prada is all about minimalism in a lot of their bags, but if you’re going to do something minimalist, every last detail has to be absolutely perfect for it to work as a look. And this is far from perfect.

When I was a little girl, I just loved Tootsie Rolls. I remember my brother liking the Tootsie Pops better, but I preferred the candy in its traditional form. But if you’re like me, then it probably took you a minute to realize it resembles the end of the Tootsie Roll when you’re looking directly at the twisted-up paper. So how do I feel about this unique little bag? At first glance, this bag didn’t appeal to me very much. But then I saw what it looked like when you use the long strap! The top half of this Tootsie Roll folds over and the bag becomes a crescent shape (as opposed to a circle shape). It really is adorable! But if you’re looking for something unique, simply carry it using the chain handles. What do you know? That’s two bags in one! Plus the leather just looks so yummy on these bags. I love the glazed, metallic finish!
